A. Benjamin Mannes, MA, CPP, CESP

Benjamin Mannes (Ben) is a noted leader in investigations, public safety and integrity; having 23 years of professional experience with public, private & nonprofit employers nationwide. Ben built his career from law enforcement service with municipal and federal agencies in New York & Washington, DC; volunteering for assignments to include the New York Terrorist Trials Operations Command, Civil Disturbance Unit, response &  recovery to attacks of September 11, 2001, the DC-area Sniper Task Force, hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and other threats to the community. His service continued post-law enforcement as his ability to bring together critical stakeholders to improve safety, security and emergency preparedness has been recognized by employers and clients. This was demonstrated in his post-law enforcement service as the National Training Coordinator & Threat Assessment Lead for the Community Anti-terrorism Training Institute (CAT Eyes Program), Intelligence Analyst for the Highway Information Sharing & Analysis Center, Surface Transportation Security Inspector for the Transportation Security Administration and as a contractor for homeland security and emergency management projects in cities to include Columbus, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

From 2008 to 2017, Ben served as the Director, Office of Investigations at the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM); responsible for leading global  investigations, integrity and public safety for the nation’s largest medical board; with over 200 employees and a stakeholder group of over 225,000 physicians worldwide.  In his time  at ABIM, Ben pioneered ways to protect intellectual property and address fraud, theft and cheating in the board certification process; personally leading over 150 investigations. As a result of his specialty work in investigating exam integrity scandals; Ben has been recognized by the assessment, healthcare, and public integrity communities as one of a subject matter expert in high-stakes exam cheating. This led to consulting engagements with State Education Departments and numerous  certifying test sponsors to benchmark effective and efficient exam security best practices.

Ben is in his 3rd term of service as a Governor on the Executive Board of InfraGard, the FBI-Coordinated public/private partnership, as well as a lecturer of criminal justice at Neumann University and as a member of two academic advisory boards. Ben has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from California Coast University; as well as being both a Certified  Protection Professional and Certified Exam Security Professional.
