Congressional School Safety Expert Says School Bus Beating, Evidence Of Poor Management By School Administrators

Dale Yeager a school safety expert says that the recent school bus beating of a 13 year old girl in Marion County School District is indicative of the poor management of students and staff that he sees as epidemic throughout U.S. schools.

Yeager who heads a research team which has provided three reports to Congress on school safety says the lack of training and management is at the heart of school bus related crime.

The US Department of Justice has released a report that states the growth of criminal gangs is increasing in all socioeconomic areas of the country. The National Youth Gang Survey Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)

Key Points

  • There were an estimated 28,100 gangs and 731,000 gang members throughout 3,500 jurisdictions nationwide.
  • The prevalence rate of gang activity increased to 34.5 percent from 32.4 percent in 2008.
  • Larger cities and suburban counties accounted for more than 96 percent of all gang homicides.

Neumann University Bullying Workshop for School Officials and School Board Members March 22

To help teachers and school administrators deal with issues of bullying on campus, Neumann University will host a workshop entitled School Safety: Solutions to Cliques, Truancy and Bullying on March 22 at Franklin Commons in Phoenixville, PA. March 22, 2011.

The program runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with presenter Dale Yeager, a nationally recognized school safety expert, who works with schools and government agencies across the country and overseas on safety issues.

Dale Yeager a criminal analyst, who worked for the Boulder District Attorney’s office in 1997 on the original murder investigation of JonBenet Ramsey, has released a book on bullying titled “3 Myths About Bullying” What Every Parent and Grandparent Should know to Protect Children and Grandchildren

The book focuses on inaccurate information about bullying that Yeager says can endanger children.

EXPERT TEAM FOR U.S. CONGRESS SAYS MARINETTE HIGH SCHOOL HOSTAGE CRISIS WAS LIKELY PREVENTABLE

A team of school safety experts who provide a special report to congress say that the hostage situation at Marinette High School by Sophomore Samuel Hengel was likely preventable.

The team believes that there appears to have been a lack of proper exterior monitoring and training of staff to visually detect weapons and threats which possibly led to the hostage situation.

“With the exception of the police and the classroom teacher who resolved the situation, the school district of Marinette should be asking themselves some difficult questions”, states congressional report team member Andy Demidont.” How did a student who allegedly had problems, go undetected by the counselors, the principal and the teaching staff? This is the question the press needs to be asking.”

A new report entitled “The State of School Safety in American Schools” speaks of sexual assault, violent cliques and violent parents as commonplace in the nation’s schools.

Negative behavior youth movements come in various forms; Goths, Juggalos and the most recognizable, Straight Edge. They are not well known by the general public but their increasing involvement in violent crimes and domestic terrorism is a growing concern for law enforcement and Homeland Security. These groups vary in objective but all of them share a common anti-establishment mentality.

The most serious concern that many professionals have about these groups is that they routinely attract members who come from difficult lives filled with trauma, parental neglect and, in many cases, serious mental disorders. This combination makes them easily manipulated by the leadership of radical organizations who have for the past several decades used these groups as recruiting centers. In order to understand the ideals of negative behavior youth movements, we must examine the political and philosophical ideologies of the 18th and 19th centuries.
