TRAVEL ALERT AUSTRALIA: Gun Violence Up

Australia Gun Crime Up

Gun crime is up in Australia. Travelers need to be aware that crime overall in the country is rising.

An article by Chris W. Cox p0ints out the myths after the highly touted law that was meant to stop mass shootings.

Australian media is filled with stories lamenting the criminal misuse of firearms. A 2016 article from The Age, titled, “Young, Dumb and Armed: How Melbourne Became a Gun City,” suggests that despite the country’s severe restrictions, violent criminals have little trouble acquiring firearms. The paper reported, “criminals are now better armed than at any time since then-Prime Minister John Howard introduced a nationwide firearm buyback scheme in response to the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.”

Canada Is Dangerous And Other Travel Safety Issues That Can Hurt You And Your Family

Recently in the Wall Street Journal, Joe Queenan wrote about the issue of travel safety. In ‘Dying to Go to Acapulco – Literally’ Queenan talks about the ‘online cheerleaders’ who are touting Mexico as a vacation spot in spite of the wide spread violence.

In response to their illogical claims of a safe Mexico, he poses the question, “Wouldn’t it make more sense to go someplace where there aren’t drug gangs, homicides and abductions?”

While traveling is a rewarding and fun activity it requires a plan of action to keep you, your family, students, volunteers or employees safe.
