The recent knife attack at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville PA by student Alex Hribal is another in a long line of school crimesNewtown Public School District Sandy Hook Elementary, Virginia Tech and Columbine – to name a few.

 

But what are the facts?

  • Attack occurred just before the first class was scheduled to begin.

  • Alex Hribal 16-year-old male suspect –used two kitchen knives.

  • 22 injured including Capital Asset Protection security guard John Resetar.

  • The school had an armed SRO [School Resource Officer] William “Buzz” Yakshe.

  • Detectives suspect that a 16-year-old boy made threatening phone calls to two classmates before going on a stabbing rampage.

 

But questions need to be asked.

  1. What was the ration of staff to students at the time of the crime? Who was managing the students?

  2. A student pulled the fire alarm not a staff member why?

  3. Security guard John Resetar saw children running after the fire alarm was pulled and stated in a 911 call that he did not know what was going on. Was he patrolling the school or at a fixed post?

  4. An FBI official told CNN But an FBI official, familiar with the investigation, discounted bullying as a motive. He [Alex Hribal] was disaffected but not bullied,” the official said on condition of anonymity.” Did the staff know about Alex Hribal’s issues?

 

These types of school crimes ARE preventable.
